EVERY FINE QUALITY, CARVED WORK for ARCHITECTURE is an ART FORM
ONLY TRADITIONAL HANDCRAFTED ARCHITECTURAL DETAILING: ~ Only the hand of a skilled craftsman can create deep undercuts to give a life-like appearance to delicate details . . . where each flower is suspended on a stem, opened like an umbrella (NEVER with un-natural straight sidewalls, like that of a cup, common to mass-produced products made from molds). Close up detail from LOUIS XVI Pattern 39520 - Ornate Fireplace Mantel in hand carved White Stauary Marble.
PRECISE, HAND-CRAFTED "OLD WORLD" QUALITY by MASTER ARTIFICERS
All fine quality, carved works begin with precise measurements to ensure fit to each client's unique architectural interior. These works are then commissioned one at a time ~ in any historic period style ~ always in traditional materials ~ with exquisite detail by hand. Expertise in Fireplace Mantels . . . original works in Carved Stone, Wood, and other Traditional Materials.
BUILT as NEEDED for EACH CLIENT, COMMISSIONED ONE at a TIME
From an historic drawing (like this one), an antique photo, or just a sketch, our studio can produce fine quality, carved works to create unique Residential, Commercial & Historical interiors: Fireplace Mantels ~ Ceiling Rosettes ~ Columns ~ Corbels ~ Pilasters ~ Carved Mouldings and other ornate architectural elements . . . built as needed for each client.
HAND-CRAFTED RESTORATION to MUSEUM QUALITY STANDARDS
1989 - ARCHITECTURAL ARTISANS conservator's studio restores missing carving to return this Antique Cornice Box to its former grandeur. Shown here with all carving restored, but before being guilded and glazed. (Footnote: the white ornamentation is original, the darker ornamentation was hand carved to replace missing or damaged detail . . . all done to museum quality standards using only materials authentic to this historical item.)
$68 MILLION HISTORIC RESTORATION of the 1860 CALIFORNIA STATE CAPITOL
1980 to 1981 - ARCHITECTURAL ARTISANS: prominent as 1 of only 2 firms existing in the USA skilled to restore the 1874 ceilings & friezes for the California State Capitol $68MM restoration project. Charcol rubbings made from fragments of the original "parget" ornamentation (photo: lower left) were interpreted as a first step in the restoration process. Our skilled artificers carefully reproduced every graceful detail until an historically accurate 3 foot wide frieze (photo: lower right) was completed . . . repeating this process for each of the unique 19 rooms involved in this phase of the restoration of the California State Capitol in Sacramento, CA.
RENOVATION of a PROMINENT CALIFORNIA HISTORICAL LANDMARK
1979 - Carving detail (below) restored by ARCHITECTURAL ARTISANS during the rennovation of the 1842 Workman Homestead in Industry, CA. In 1872 William Workman remodeled the homestead to resemble an English manor house (above). In 1979, under the direction of prominent architect Ray Girvigian, all carvings and architectural detail were restored to their 1872 grandeur. (California historical landmark #874)
